Sally Noma has been selected to speak at the National Association of Subrogation Professionals’ (NASP) Annual Conference on October 28, 2024 in Phoenix, AZ.  The session, entitled “Battery and Electric Vehicle Investigations - Where's the Juice?” will illustrate effective electric vehicle forensic fire investigation techniques and present case studies to assist in identifying the core elements that are crucial to the successful resolution of electric vehicle fire claims.

Her presentation, “Scene Preservation in Property Subrogation,” will explore which claims should have a scene preserved for investigation, cover spoliation issues, provide guidance on how to properly give notice to interested parties with the opportunity to inspect, and discuss interfacing with public investigatory agencies. 

This PLRB Claims Conference will feature over 90 sessions in 14 educational tracks including subrogation, large property losses, and catastrophic losses. Founding attorney of Noma Law Firm, Sally Noma, recently completed the 2020 Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) Litigation Management Institute (LMI) earning the Certified Litigation Management Professional (CLMP) designation. Geared toward attorneys and litigation management professionals with 10 or more years of experience, LMI’s curriculum bridges the gap between legal theory, litigation strategy and the business aspects of litigation management. Instructors at the program included senior insurance company and large self-insured company executives, risk and senior claim officers, and in-house and outside defense counsel on a variety of subjects, including risk transfer, loss development, financial considerations, case and claim management strategies, alternative fee agreements, client relations and e-discovery. Noma was one of 100 select participants from all over the country to be evaluated on project presentation skills, classroom participation, and peer reviews.

Sally Noma joined a panel of women lawyers August 5 to discuss underlying prejudices that negatively impact legal careers and prevent greater diversity within the practice. 

The webinar, “Embracing Invisible Disabilities - Ending the Silence of Shame,” sought to educate attendees on the various types of invisible disabilities, address the current lack of awareness of invisible disabilities that has too often resulted in stigma concerning various mental and physical conditions, and  expand the legal community's knowledge and acceptance of invisible disabilities amongst members of the bar. 

The webinar, hosted by California Women Lawyers, was part of the CWL At Home Series which will continue to be updated as members impacted by the global pandemic evolve. See future CWL offerings here.

Sally Noma has been elected as Governor for District 3 of the California Women Lawyers Association (CWL). Her two-year term will commence in October 2020, and as a Governor of populous District 3 she will represent Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, and Santa Clara Counties.  In addition to participating in board meetings throughout the year, CWL District Governors stand on committees, help plan events, recruit new CWL members, and assist in running the organization. 

CWL is the only state bar association for women in California, and its focus is the professional advancement of women lawyers. Learn more about CWL’s Board of Governors here.

Sally Noma and Ulises Castellon of Fire Cause Analysis will be presenting their webinar, “Public Fire Investigator – Friend or Foe?” at 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PST. Their webinar, which was selected by the National Association of Subrogation Professionals as part of the Arson Investigators Subrogation Webinar Series, will discuss the possible outcomes of the local fire department fire investigator completing their investigation before the insurance company’s origin and cause investigator is retained and sent to the scene.

Sally Noma is honored to be appointed to the Legislative Affairs Committee of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP). The committee was developed as a unique bill-tracking model to monitor state and federal legislation, enabling subrogation professionals to better understand the impact a proposed bill could have and even take action, if appropriate.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Dennis Montali approved a $13.5 billion agreement between PG&E and fire victims’ attorneys and an $11 billion agreement for carriers whose insureds’ properties were destroyed in the catastrophic wildfires of 2017 and 2018. Noma Law Firm is proud to represent insurance carriers affected by these fires.

Prior to joining Noma Law, Alaina worked in immigration law and as an academic guidance professional. Outside of the office, Alaina is an accomplished and talented dancer.
